In honor of my natural hairversary, I wanted to share my top Youtubers that have given me so much wisdom & guidance in my own hair journey. 99.9% of what I’ve learned is from Youtube and these ladies are the best of the best when it comes to all things natural hair. Let’s get into it!
- Naptural85 (Whitney White) : The OG Natural Hair Youtuber! Whitney’s been at it for a while. She started her natural hair journey doing mostly DIYs on her TWA because at the time there were no products for natural hair (real ish). Now, she has her own self-funded haircare line, Melanin Haircare. Her story is truly remarkable and I love how her low-manipulation protective styles – essential for encouraging growth and maintaining length.
2. Kaice Alea : Kaice is wise beyond her years. Curls with Kaice saved me from so much ignorance when it comes to natural hair! It’s legit the best Youtube series for all new naturals or curly girls just wanting to learn more about natural hair ingredients and oils! She breaks down the basics of being a curly girl and great product options for every curl type.
3. Daye La Soul: I like Daye La Soul because she taught me why hair typing doesn’t really matter and that’s big because the natural hair community loves its hair types. Instead, she focuses more on hair porosity and density which play a bigger factor in understanding what products work best for your hair. In that way, she stands out and like me she has healthy colored curls. Not to mention, her styling game is on point!
4. Journey to Waist Length (Shanique Buntyn): Journey to Waist Length was one of the first natural hair youtube channels that I followed. At the time, she was transitioning from relaxed to natural hair which lasted about 18 months and was virtually unheard of. Her channel was my go-to when I was transitioning and starting off on my natural hair journey.
5. The Glam Twinz (Kelsey & Kendra Murrell): Hair Goals (and Life goals really)! Periodt! Kelsey and Kendra are proof that all black women can grow healthy long hair should they choose too. This has been such a struggle in the black hair community for years and still is to this day. Their channel has a lot of great product reviews, healthy hair tips and curly girl essentials. They also wrote a book on all their hair tips – The GlamTwinz Guide To Longer, Healthier Hair.
Drop a comment if you followed any of these girls already and share who some of your fave hair gurus are. I’m always looking for new tips & tricks! 🙂
