In August 2019, my boyfriend and I traveled to Cancun Mexico for our annual bae-cation! It was quite ‘litty’ (a fancy term for cool)! It was both our first time in the country and we absolutely loved it. By the 3rd day, we already decided we had to return for a second trip soon. I shared a quick video on my Youtube channel but I wanted to share a more detailed guide of our 5-day trip:
Where we stayed:
Hyatt Zilara Cancun. I will share a separate post for my review of the hotel with more details. Overall, it is an adults-only all-inclusive resort and we met some nice people from all over the world and shots were involved (oh but of course).
What we ate:
The food at Hyatt Zilara Cancun was exquisite! We ate like royalty every day. It was also clear that the hotel prides itself on excellent customer service. The service staff was friendly and accommodating. We ate at the offered restaurants apart from the Chef’s Table which was a gourmet private-chef experience. We had zero complaints on the food which is rare since my boyfriend’s a chef (that says it all).
What We Did:
We wanted to have fun but still relax on vacation so we spent half our time within the resort and half our time out exploring Cancun. When we spent the day inside the hotel, we chilled by the beach, got drunk in the pool, and even got complimentary back rubs. There were so many activities and experiences to choose from since it’s a high tourist area but we ended up doing the following activities outside of the hotel:
- Downtown Cancun: We went to the Spa Cancun for fish therapy, couples massages, and pedicures. Shopping plaza for souvenirs The bus traveling through the hotel trip was 12 pesos which amount to less than $1 USD. That made it super affordable to explore the hotel strip!’
- Isla Cancun: Downtown shopping center. We walked around, shopped a bit, ate some churros. The area also had an aquarium, a ferris wheel, and plenty of restaurants.
- Selvetica (Puerto Moreles): We did the Extreme Canopy tour which included Ziplining and Cenote Jumps. The tour includes round trip transportation and lunch which makes it SO MUCH FUN!
Travel Advice before traveling to Cancun
- Pre-organize airport transportation if you can. We booked a shuttle to and from the airport with Expedia and it made life a lot easier. Also, it lowers the chance of a taxi ripping you off with an outrageous price.
- Waterproof Cases are key! Trust me on this and learn from our mistakes lol
- Any knowledge of Spanish is clutch! I was practicing my ‘lil’ español daily. I wouldn’t say it’s essential but it comes in handy when trying to ask questions & get around.
- Money exchange: Check with your hotel on if there a currency exchange in the hotel or nearby. We exchanged our US dollars into pesos at the airport at an okay rate (16 pesos to $1) but the hotel had a better rate (20 pesos).
Thanks! Have you been to Mexico before? If so, what city and how was your experience?
Looks like so much! I’ve only been to Mexico once on a cruise, so it was only a few hours. I definitely want to visit again 😊
Looking back, I realized we may have did the most on that trip but it was fun! & yess – I definitely want to visit again – maybe a different city this time!
