Seven Best Places to Explore in Barbados

Cherry Tree Hill Reserve, Barbados

I’ve had the pleasure of the visiting Barbados four times in my life. My mother has a business trip there every year and I enjoy taking advantage of the free accommodation and break from whatever I’m dealing with at the time. To my surprise, I’ve fallen in love with the country – the people, the vibes and last but not least the rum punch. From my own experiences, I’ve curated the perfect list of places to explore around ‘Bim’ (Bajan term for Barbados). These places captured my heart on site and are at the top of my list every time I return. Whether it’s your first time in Barbados or you’re a regular like myself, be sure to add one or two of these places to your itinerary!

Check out my must-see places in Bim!

1. Bridgetown (the Capital)

First, we got Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados! Every time we visit, my mommy and I catch a quick bus to downtown Bridgetown. We enjoy the city mainly because it’s all-in-one for true Bajan culture. In Bridgetown, you can find Chefette (famous Bajan restaurant chain), Cave Shepherd (local department store chain), markets and the docks so there’s a lot of things to do in one place. I absolutely love walking around the city and checking out some local spots along with the city’s historical architecture.

2. St. Lawrence Gap (The Gap)

Bottom line – The Gap is lit! This is the go-to spot for clubs, night life and great bites. There are numerous hotels though so it can get crowded but the vibes always guarantee a good time. Also, the Gap Burger is SO damn delicious!

3. Harrison’s Cave

Then we have Harrison’s Cave – one of the greatest natural wonders in Barbados and really the Caribbean. The rocks and its formations within are truly remarkable. We took the tram tour where we got to explore the caves and learn about the land’s early settlers. The tour guide was well informed and she gave us a lesson on geology as well.

4. Oistin’s/Fish Fry (especially on a Friday!)

‘Ya gatta go to Oistin’s on a Friday night.’ Oistin’s is the nation’s fish fry (similar to Arawak Cay in Nassau, Bahamas- shameless plug lol ). It’s a great spot to get a good taste of Bajan culture – eat some good food, drink some good rum, ‘teif a wine’ or chil with the locals. I’m big on a good piece of fish and I’d recommend to eat it all there – flying fish, snapper, dolphin, marlin, swordfish. All local and all so delicious!

5. Hunte’s Gardens

Next is Hunte’s Gardens, home of the prettiest greenery I’ve ever seen. The ‘most enchanted place on Earth‘ is full of gorgeous flowers and trees. It’s the perfect place for pictures or just to observe nature at its best. The place also has a historic aspect to it as the owner still lives there and meets with guests regularly.

6. Bathsheba Beach

This site was the most pleasant surprise in my most recent trip. Bathsheba Beach looks unreal! The shores are flowing milk and honey and the giant rocks add to its beauty. I was truly in awe when I came across this treasure and it’s a must see for everyone on the island. It’s also known as an ideal spot for surfing on the island as the Soup Bowl is held there.

7. Barbados Wildlife Reserve

Last but not least, we have Barbados Wildlife Reserve! I made it a mission to come here on my most recent trip. I just had to see the monkeys! If you’re an animal lover like me, you will love it, especially at feeding time when all the creatures come out and dine. Barbados is known for its green monkeys and they do not disappoint – very fiesty but cute like all islanders 🙂 . The Reserve also has deers, tortoises, caimans and peacocks.

And there you have it! Let me know if you’ve been to Barbados and/or seen some of these places. I hope this inspired you to add Barbados to your bucket list.
